With January enveloping us in its grim embrace, it’s nice to have a glass of red wine to look forward to with dinner and this wine, which I got as a sample, fits the bill.
Ponzi Vineyards Tavola Pinot Noir Willamette Valley 2010: An easy-drinking pinot noir that is ready to go right now and while not the cheapest bottle out there is moderately priced at $25. This is from Oregon’s Willamette Valley, a key spot for pinot noir. (By the way, that’s Will-AM-met, not WILL-a-met. I’m sorry to say it was quite some time before I realized that.) The wine starts with an aroma of black cherry and vanilla and moves on to a rich, full, plummy mouthful accented with a little spiciness on the end. We had it with roast chicken, and it was delicious.
