Hello and welcome to the website of Michelle Locke, a Berkeley-based freelance writer.

With more than two decades of experience as a breaking-news reporter, I specialize in writing lively, engaging copy, covering topics as diverse as business forecasts and the latest in cocktail trends. (Of course, those two are not always entirely unrelated.)

I’m allergic to jargon, and I try never to use three words where one will do. Including when I’m getting paid by the word.

Need something done fast and done right? Drop me a line at I’m available for writing and research assignments of all types _ I also can provide high-res photos _  as well as daily coverage of events in the San Francisco Bay area.

Vinecdote is a website reporting on trends in food, wine and travel, with a special focus on the Napa Valley and Sonoma County wine regions.

Founded in 2009, the site is updated Monday through Friday and promoted on Twitter and Facebook. Ad space available includes banner, 468×60 and sidebar ads. I am unable to accept direct advertising from wineries due to conflict-of-interest concerns but wine-related ads are welcomed, along with ads for other products and services. Rates available on request, email me at

Wine samples are accepted for review. Sources of reviewed wines will be noted in the post.
